Youth art headlines this week’s First Friday event in downtown Los Altos, scheduled 6-8 p.m. Friday. The theme, “Los Altos Youth Art Exhibit Welcomes SFMOMA,” reflects the contemporary art pieces created by local Los Altos elementary, middle and high school students that will be displayed in stores around town.
The displays welcome SFMOMA’s mobile exhibition, scheduled to open Nov. 8 in various downtown locations. At right, Kristine Bardman and Kimberly Dickerson, art docent coordinator for the Los Altos School District, prepare for the exhibit.
The student art installation connects Los Altos/Los Altos Hills Community Values Youth, Los Altos Forward’s First Friday, downtown merchants, Los Altos Rotary, students, families and the community at large. Each student who submits art will receive a $5 gift certificate from Know Knew Books at 366 State Street and a flashing yellow star, sponsored by Nature Gallery, to wear for recognition during the evening.
During First Friday events, pedestrians browse and shop at shops and galleries downtown, many of which provide discounts, refreshments and beverages. Musicians set up throughout downtown. This month’s lineup includes Los Altos Youth Chamber Ensemble, The Sunday Seven, Fully Funded, Black Mountain Radio and the Quarter Tones.
The First Friday headquarters at the Nature Gallery, 296 State St. will provide information about the event and refreshments.
