Los Altos Forward has scheduled a Community Conversation 5:30-7:30 p.m. today at the Outer Space Gallery, 359 State St.
Community Conversations is a series of discussions in which the community hears from and interacts with experts about ways to enhance downtown Los Altos.
Attendees will discuss the question: What can we do to improve the safety of pedestrian and bicycle routes to downtown Los Altos, especially across busy roads like Foothill Expressway and San Antonio Road?
Residents who have felt unsafe crossing San Antonio or Foothill into or out of downtown Los Altos or want a safer way to walk or bike downtown are invited to offer their input and learn about planning and design strategies that could improve safety for pedestrians and bicycles, from bike boxes to flexible-use lanes and squaring intersections.
Darby Watson, senior urban planner at Arup’s San Francisco-based Integrated Planning practice and a member of the Urban Planning and Policy team, will lead the session, which may include a field trip to a nearby problematic intersection to brainstorm solutions.
Prior to joining Arup, Watson oversaw Seattle’s Complete Streets program and served as urban design lead for Seattle’s Department of Transportation. She is a former member of the Seattle Design Commission and the Seattle Waste Advisory Committee.
Los Altos Forward’s mission is to promote community vibrancy in downtown Los Altos and facilitate First Fridays and Community Conversations. It is a project of the Los Altos Community Foundation.
Admission is free, but registration is requested.
