Hidden Villa offers free access Friday

Hidden Villa has scheduled a free access day Friday, with trails and picnic areas open to all for a post-Thanksgiving outing.

Visitors to the organic farm and nature preserve can participate in a photo contest by snapping shots of their favorite Hidden Villa moments. Participants can visit its Instagram (@hiddenvilla) or Facebook (facebook.com/hiddenvilla) pages for contest regulations and details on weekly rewards. The Town Crier is participating in the contest judging. Photographers whose shots are selected as weekly winners will win their choice of Hidden Villa’s honey or olive oil, both locally grown.

Los Altos History Museum hosts tamale cooking demo, tasting

In support of its current exhibition, “Inspired by Juana: La Doña de la Frontera,” the Los Altos History Museum has scheduled a Tamale Cooking Demo and Savory-to-Sweet Tamale Tasting 4-6 p.m. Dec. 8 at the museum, 51 S. San Antonio Road.

CasaQ Hispanic lifestyle expert Darlene Tenes will lead the event.

At the Library - Week of Nov. 21

Noon Monday: “PBS News-Hour” has teamed up with The New York Times for the book club Now Read This. The club allows readers to participate in discussions in real time and ask questions of the authors. The book club will meet to discuss “A Separation” by Katie Kitamura.

Los Altos PREPARES hosts storm prep talk

Los Altos PREPARES has scheduled a discussion on “Storm Preparation and Your Neighborhood” 6:30-8 p.m. Dec. 6 in the Grant Park Multipurpose Room, 1575 Holt Ave., Los Altos.

The presentation will cover basic preparations residents can make to stay safe in storms and prevent flooding around their homes.

Chapman headlines book talk, signing

Los Altos resident Robin Chapman, author of the newly released “Historic Bay Area Visionaries,” is scheduled to discuss her book and sign copies noon Nov. 15 at a luncheon in Bailey Hall at Union Presbyterian Church of Los Altos, 858 University Ave.

Cost is a $15 donation.
