SV Reads events explore impact of family history on identity

Best-selling author A.J. Jacobs is scheduled to discuss his book “It’s All Relative” 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Los Altos main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road. The event is the first of 10 library programs in the next few weeks focused on the Silicon Valley Reads 2019 theme “Finding Identity in Family History.”

No tickets or reservations are needed for the free discussion, presented in partnership with the Los Altos Library Endowment.

LA Library hosts Great Decisions program

The Los Altos Library is scheduled to host Great Decisions 2019, a nationwide discussion program on world affairs, 1-3 p.m. Mondays Feb. 4 through April 8 (no meetings Feb. 18 or April 1) in the Orchard Room of the main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road.

The program model involves reading the Great Decisions Briefing Book, watching a DVD and meeting to discuss the most critical global issues facing the U.S.

World Affairs meeting focuses on Turkey

The Peninsula Chapter of World Affairs has scheduled diplomat Scott Kilner to discuss “Turkey’s Future Under Erdogan” 7:30-9 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Los Altos Youth Center, 1 N. San Antonio Road.

Kilner, former U.S. State Department Consul General to Istanbul, will share his insight on what lies ahead for Turkey in the aftermath of the country’s 2017 constitutional referendum and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s increasingly strong grip on power.
