Author Julian Guthrie and entrepreneur Abe Kleinfeld are scheduled to discuss women and men working together at a Silicon Valley Reads program set for 7 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Los Altos main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road.

The 2020 theme of Silicon Valley Reads is “Women Making It Happen,” and Guthrie’s book “Alpha Girls” is among the featured selections in a year that celebrates 100-plus years of women’s achievements. More than 150 free public events for all ages will be offered throughout Santa Clara County during February and March, including several in Los Altos.

San Antonio Hills residents set to meet

The annual San Antonio Hills Homeowners meeting is scheduled 7 p.m. today at Los Altos Golf & Country Club, 1650 Country Club Drive.

Speakers will include Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian on how county government affects San Antonio Hills; county associate planner Valerie Negrete on the state’s new construction requirements for accessory dwelling units; and resident Richard Blanchard on what people can do before the lights go out due to a power outage. A question-and-answer period will follow.

Local Arts Roundup: Meet artists of Gallery 9 exhibition Thursday

The Los Altos History Museum has scheduled an open house with the artists whose work is featured in the exhibition “Gallery 9: Celebrating Art in Los Altos” 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

“This is a chance for visitors to find out about the artists behind the canvas,” said exhibition curator Amy Ellison. “What is their process? Where did they get their inspiration? How did each piece of art come to be? Attendees can browse the exhibition, speak to each artist and enjoy wine and cheese.”

Museum celebrates language diversity with bilingual film screening

The Los Altos History Museum is scheduled to observe International Mother Language Day with a screening of the Japanese documentary “Paper Lanterns,” followed by messages of peace in languages from around the world, 5-7 p.m. Feb 21 at the museum, 51 S. San Antonio Road.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization launched International Mother Language Day in 2000 to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity, and to preserve languages before they disappeared.
