History Museum presents ‘Superstitions’ display

The Los Altos History Museum exhibition “Superstitions” is scheduled to run through Nov. 4 in the J. Gilbert Smith House, 51 S. San Antonio Road.

Attendees will experience a Victorian-era house in mourning, learn how death influenced life and discover where many folk beliefs about bad luck and death originated.

51st Celebrity Forum Speaker Series kicks off Thursday with Rick Steves

Famed travel author Rick Steves is scheduled to kick off the 51st season of the Foothill College Celebrity Forum speaker series with two appearances set for Thursday and Friday.

All Celebrity Forum programs are scheduled 8 p.m. at Flint Center on the De Anza College campus, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino.

Community Briefs: Week of Oct. 17

‘Senior Creativity Event’ set for Saturday

The Senior Inclusion and Participation Project has scheduled a “Senior Creativity Event” 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Highway Community, 2050 Miramonte Ave., Mountain View.

The free event is aimed at adults 50 years and older living in Los Altos and Mountain View. Activities will include flower arranging, card making, calligraphy, a drum circle, rock painting and reflective writing.

LAH Town Hall presents 'Abstraction and Connection'

Los Altos artist Sterling Haidt’s “Number 60” is among the works of art currently on exhibit at Los Altos Hills Town Hall.

An exhibition of digital art by Sterling Haidt, “Abstraction and Connection,” is scheduled for display through March at Los Altos Hills Town Hall, 26379 W. Fremont Road.

A free art walk and talk tour is set for 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 30. Participants will have the opportunity to catch a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the artist’s inspiration, techniques and materials used to express his connection to his subject matter.

At the Library: Week of Oct. 10

The following free events are scheduled at the Los Altos main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road. Events are held in the Orchard Room unless otherwise noted.

• 7 p.m. Monday: Photographer and musician David Couzens is set to present photographs from his book “Images of the Caucasus.”
