Symposium complements World War I display

The Los Altos History Museum has scheduled the symposium “Women, Workers and the Suppressed” 7 p.m. Tuesday in Bus Barn Theater, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.

The symposium supplements the museum’s current exhibition, “Over Here: Americans at Home in World War I,” which runs through May 27.

Museum offers summer workshop for students

The Los Altos History Museum has scheduled a summer program on museum studies for students entering grades 10-12 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 9-20 at the museum, 51 S. San Antonio Road.

Participants in the free, hands-on Juana Briones Summer Workshop will apply what they learn to create installation pieces for the bilingual exhibition “Inspired by Juana: Doña de la Frontera,” slated for display at the museum Oct. 18 through April 20.

Annual Fine Art in the Park scheduled May 19 and 20

The Rotary Club of Los Altos’ Fine Art in the Park open-air art show is scheduled 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 19 and 20 in Lincoln Park, 199 University Ave., Los Altos.

The 43rd annual fundraiser will feature fine art, music and food. This year’s showcase will highlight the work of more than 165 regional, national and international fine artists and artisans, including more than 60 new artists and two one-of-a-kind Shona sculptures from artists in Zimbabwe.

Fundraiser celebrates Celebrity Forum founder


Henning

Renowned humorist and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Dave Barry is scheduled to headline “Celebrating Dick Henning and 50 years of the Foothill College Celebrity Forum,” a Foothill College fundraiser recognizing the contributions of the former dean, 5:30 p.m. May 12 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

The event will include dinner and a program honoring the achievements of Henning, who in 1967 was hired as director of student activities at Foothill. He previously taught at Sunnyvale High School. During his tenure at Foothill, Henning held the titles of professor, dean and, currently, vice president emeritus.

GreenTown event promotes clean-car adoption in Los Altos

GreenTown Los Altos, a local nonprofit organization focused on environmental education and advocacy, has scheduled the presentation “Don’t Be Fuelish: The Future of Passenger Vehicles in California” 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday at the Los Altos main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road.

The discussion will center on two questions: Why are we still stuck in the gasoline era? and What will it take to end it?
