LA Library hosts Chinese Film Festival

The Los Altos Library is scheduled to host a Chinese Film Festival 7:30 p.m. Saturdays in September and October in the Orchard Room of the main library,13 S. San Antonio Road.

The screenings are part of the fifth annual Across the Pacific – China Arts Festival, organized by the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco.

Compassion Week scheduled Sept. 24-30 at Los Altos church

Los Altos United Methodist Church has scheduled its sixth annual Compassion Week Monday through Sept. 30.

In lieu of attending regular worship services, congregants and local residents participate in volunteer service activities in the area. The Compassion Week planning team has organized more than 50 different projects addressing a range of needs in the community, from cleaning up local beaches and parks to cooking and serving meals to the homeless, sewing dresses for children in Africa and repairing bicycles used as the main transportation for dayworkers and their families.

Actors Cleese & Keaton part of lineup for Celebrity Forum's speaker series

The 51st season of the Foothill College Celebrity Forum Speaker Series – launching next month – will feature authors, actors and a well-known comedian.

The Foothill-De Anza Community College District sponsors the series, and founder Dick Henning serves as moderator.

LAH hosts presentation on prominent local family

The Los Altos Hills History Committee has scheduled the presentation “The Ginztons of Los Altos Hills” 2 p.m. Sunday in Town Hall Council Chambers, 26379 W. Fremont Road. A reception will follow.

Nancy and Anne Ginzton, daughters of Edward and Artemas Ginzton, will relate their tales of growing up in the Hills with parents whose contributions to Silicon Valley touched the fields of technology, land preservation and architecture, and the interconnection of communities through local, county and state trail systems.

Ben Rogers of Los Altos and Derron Mendel of Sunnyvale are slated to perform at PYT’s “Au Cabaret 2018” fundraiser Saturday night.

Peninsula Youth Theatre’s “Au Cabaret 2018,” a gala event supporting the arts, is scheduled 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St.

The event will feature wine and desserts, a silent auction and performances by several of PYT’s young actors.

Morning Forum lineup revealed for 69th season

The 69th annual Morning Forum of Los Altos lecture series is underway.
