Aurora Singers get 'Hip' for holidays

The 70-member Aurora Singers choir, which includes Los Altos area members, is scheduled to perform the concert “Hip! Hip! Holidays” 7 p.m. Saturday at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Palo Alto, 505 E. Charleston Road.

The family-friendly program will feature songs by Elvis Pres- ley and Dave Brubeck and will include the selections “Big Band Santa” and “Boogie Woogie Hanukkah.”

The concert also will include sing-along interludes and a post-concert reception.

Directed and founded by Dawn Reyen, the Aurora Singers began in 1989 with just 20 members and a mission to entertain those in residences who might not otherwise enjoy live music.

The group has performed six joint concerts in the U.S. and Europe with its sister-city choir from Albi, France. In July, the two chorales performed before a packed house at Valley Presbyterian Church in Portola Valley.

Tickets are $10, free for children under 6. Seating is open, and concertgoers are advised to arrive when the doors open at 6:30 p.m. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.
