Jazz quartet set to play Wunderman House in MV

Vuckovich

Fresh from receiving a lifetime achievement award in his native Serbia, veteran jazz pianist Larry Vuckovich is scheduled to headline a concert 3-5 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Wunderman House, 655 Eunice Ave., Mountain View.

Multi-reed saxophonist Noel Jewkes, vocalist Kay Kostopoulos and bassist Doug Miller will perform alongside Vuckovich.

Vuckovich, still performing in his 80s, grew up in the former Yugoslavia. He learned to play classical music on the piano as a child, but he got hooked on jazz listening to American Armed Forces Radio. He and his family emigrated to the United States in 1951, settling in San Francisco. Vuckovich has been performing since the 1940s, working with jazz greats Vince Guaraldi, Mel Torme and Jon Hendricks.

Jewkes plays piano, bass, trombone and trumpet as well as the sax. When she’s not singing or playing percussion, Kostopoulos teaches drama at Stanford University. Miller is a bass player with a resume that includes performing with the Count Basie Orchestra.

Tickets are $30.
