Bike-themed events set for Thursday in MV

The city of Mountain View is scheduled to host the ninth annual Silicon Valley Bike Summit Thursday in partnership with the Silicon Valley Bike Coalition.

Thursdays events will include:

• The Silicon Valley Bike Summit, 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Mountain View Community Center, 201 S. Rengstorff Ave.

• A pop-up protected bike lane on California Street between Escuela Avenue and Shoreline Boulevard, 8 p.m. today through 10 p.m. Thursday.

• A bike-themed Thursday Night Live gathering on Castro Street with a bike rodeo and bicycle vendors, 5-9 p.m.

Downtown Green returns for summer

The Downtown Green is back for another summer run of activities along Third Street between Main and State streets in downtown Los Altos.

Sponsored by the city of Los Altos, the Downtown Green replaces the Third Street asphalt with a pop-up park featuring a green lawn, tables, chairs and a stage for performances.

Movies are screened 8:30 p.m. Saturdays for the duration of the Green, which ends Aug. 25. Other activities include concerts Friday, Aug. 8, 15 and 22; a youth science fair Aug. 17; and a volunteer fair Aug. 24.

Exhibition explores history of gadgets

The Los Altos History Museum’s latest exhibition, “Gadgets Galore! Transforming the American Household,” highlights how gadgets came to play such an integral role in daily life.

“Gadgets Galore!” is on display through Sept. 15 at the museum’s J. Gilbert Smith House, 51 S. San Antonio Road. Hours are noon to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. Admission is free.
