MV library presents conversation with Vargas

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas is scheduled to appear in conversation with Michael Jones 6:30 p.m. May 13 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St.

Jones, principal of Jose Antonio Vargas Elementary School, set to open in Mountain View in August, will interview Vargas and conduct a question-and-answer session.

Vargas, a graduate of Mountain View High School, is an advocate for immigrant rights as well as the author of the best-selling memoir “Dear America: Notes of an Undocumented Citizen.” His nonprofit organization Define American uses storytelling, media outreach and advocacy to fight anti-immigration policies and change people’s minds about what it means to be a patriotic American and an immigrant.

Admission is free and open to all. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Vargas’ memoir will be available for purchase and signing in the lobby.

The event is sponsored by the nonprofit Friends of the Mountain View Library and the Mountain View Public Library.
