The Los Altos-Mountain View and Palo Alto branches of the American Association of University Women have scheduled a “Fiesta Lunch” celebrating their Tech Trek Science Camp scholars noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Garden House in Shoup Park, 400 University Ave., Los Altos.
The scholars are girls who attend middle school in Los Altos, Mountain View and Palo Alto.
The featured speaker will be Annette Bianco, former chief systems engineer at Lockheed and for an International Space Station support contract for NASA. Bianco earned a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering and a master’s in engineering management from San Jose State University.
The aim of the AAUW Tech Trek camp is to encourage girls and young women to explore careers in science, technology, engineering and math. Scholarships are funded by local AAUW branches, with additional support from local Kiwanis and Rotary clubs.
The event will include lunch catered by LuLu’s, an opportunity to find out more about the activities of the local AAUW branches and a short Los Altos branch business meeting to confirm the slate of board members.
Women, girls and friends and relatives of girls who are currently choosing career paths or who are interested in STEM careers or women’s equity issues are especially encouraged to attend.
Cost is $20 per person.
