Award-winning musicians perform at Foothills church

Grammy Award-winning guitarist Mark Hanson and national award-winning vocalist Greta Pedersen are scheduled to return to Los Altos for a concert with Bay Area fingerstyle guitarists Teja Gerken and Doug Young 2-4 p.m. May 5 at Foothills Congregational Church, 461 Orange Ave.

Hanson and Pedersen’s concerts feature a mix of jazz, Americana, originals and pop. Gerken and Young draw from their individual catalogs of original compositions, Celtic tunes, arrangements of jazz standards and the occasional classical piece.

Former Bay Area residents now living near Portland, Ore., Hanson and Pedersen recently released a duo album, “Then & Now.” Hanson’s guitar recordings play on National Public Radio, “Martha Stewart Living” and other programs. Pedersen’s recordings have won multiple awards, including the Film Advisory Board’s Award of Excellence.

As a duo, Gerken and Young create a wide tonal palette and often use a variety of guitars including baritone, metal-bodied resonator and 12-strings, as well as more standard instruments. Gerken’s two CDs, “On My Way” and “Postcards,” have received critical acclaim.

The suggested donation for the concert is $20.
