LA History Museum looks to the sky

The Los Altos History Museum’s latest exhibition, “Instinct Extinct: The Great Pacific Flyway,” is scheduled to open Jan. 25 and run through April 1.

The display chronicles the story of birds – their beauty, their biology, their migrations and their ecosystems.

Free programs supporting the exhibition include:

• 1-4 p.m. Jan. 27: An opening event at the museum will feature live birds from the Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo.

• 10 a.m. beginning Feb. 8: John Muir Laws will teach a series of free Bird Sketch Art classes at the museum.

The Los Altos History Museum is located at 51 S. San Antonio Road. Hours are noon to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. Admission is free.

Foothills choirs perform MLK tribute

Foothills Congregational Church’s Ensemble, adult and bell choirs and the Cantabile Youth Singers of Silicon Valley are scheduled to perform a musical and spoken-word tribute to the work of Martin Luther King Jr., “Driving Out the Darkness,” 2 p.m. Jan. 21 in the Foothills sanctuary, 461 Orange Ave., Los Altos.

The choirs will celebrate the legacy of King’s call to social and civil change through nonviolent protest and discourse.

A potluck reception in the Parish Hall with the artists is scheduled after the concert.

Admission is free and open to all.

Lions Club meets in Palo Alto

The Palo Alto Lions Club meets 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the first three Tuesdays of each month at the University Club of Palo Alto, 3277 Miranda Ave.

Founded in 1917, the service club is known best for helping the visually impaired, but members also are involved in projects supporting the elderly and the disabled. Several Los Altos and Los Altos Hills residents are members.

American Legion convenes monthly

American Legion Post 558, which serves Los Altos, hosts monthly meetings the first Wednesday of each month at 347 First St.

Meetings begin with a happy hour and dinner at 6 p.m., followed by a business meeting at 7 p.m.
