GreenTown events promote sustainability

GreenTown Los Altos has scheduled two events this month aimed at promoting sustainability.

• Los Altos Creek Cleanup: Volunteers will gather 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday at Heritage Oaks Park, 1305 McKenzie Ave., for National Coastal Cleanup Day at Permanente Creek. Participants will remove debris from the creekbed, sort and weigh the material and report results to the Santa Clara Valley Water District. Volunteers of all ages are welcome, but those under 18 need a signed waiver, available online at cleanacreek.org. Registration is required. To register, visit greentown-los-altos-creek-cleanup-sept-2017.eventbrite.com.

• Understanding Drought-Tolerant Gardening: Horticulturist Jeffrey Caldwell will discuss plant identification, plant care, weeding, pruning, invasives and garden tools 1-4 p.m. Sept. 24 at the new drought-tolerant garden at the Woodland Branch Library, 1975 Grant Road, Los Altos.
