With Easter just days away, Los Altos resident Gerda Cristal has published an Easter-themed children’s book titled “Elizabeth’s Story.”

Self-published March 19, the story follows Elizabeth, whom Cristal described as a “shy little rabbit.” Elizabeth wishes to make Easter baskets in celebration of Easter Sunday, on which she meets Easter Bunny.

Easter Bunny is the main character of Cristal’s first book, “A Bunny Named Easter.” In the follow-up, Elizabeth and Easter Bunny fall in love and get married, and work together to create Easter baskets to distribute to everyone in time for Easter Sunday morning.

Cristal said it took her approximately nine months to write the book, which she finished in late December.

“I just thought it would be a fun experience, and it has been,” Cristal said of writing. “It has been a very interesting experience.”

She not only wrote the story, she also illustrated the book.

“It gives me a reason to paint,” said Cristal, who added that she enjoyed the entire process.

Cristal noted that the most pleasurable part was creating the book’s wedding scene because, she said, “it involved the imagination of creating the gown and the ceremony.” She added that another highlight was how Mother Goose was in charge of directing it all.

Through “Elizabeth’s Story,” Cristal said she hopes to share messages of “working together, sharing, love, celebration (and) family unity.”

She has two additional books in mind, both featuring the characters in her other books.

“Elizabeth’s Story” is available for purchase online at the BookBaby Bookshop ( and will be sold on Amazon beginning
April 28.
