Members of the Friends of the Library of Los Altos are adjusting to the restrictions brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. While its quarterly book sales cannot resume until a vaccine is widely available, the organization has scheduled smaller outdoor sales, beginning with a sale of children and teen books, puzzles, DVDs and audiobooks. The sale, originally scheduled for Sunday (Sept.13), has been rescheduled to 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 20 on the Los Altos History Museum patio, 51 S. San Antonio Road. The event will be held, weather permitting.
Masks will be worn and physical distancing protocols will be followed. According to organizers, the sale will offer patrons the opportunity to stock up on items that are difficult to acquire while the libraries are closed.
Local residents may wish to donate the books they have cleaned out from their shelves in the past six months, however, Friends representatives said that until they sell their existing inventory and empty their storage area, new donations cannot be accepted. Donors are encouraged to box up and quarantine their books for the day when Friends can open its donation closet again. Look for updates on the Friends and the Los Altos Library websites. Friends of the Library also accepts monetary donations on its website.
Friends of the Library is ramping up internet sales to respond to pent-up demand for books. The organization has hundreds of books available for online purchase at amzn.to/3bbuuco, or by clicking the Amazon link on the Friends’ website.
