Adela Di Canio recently received the Volunteer and Sponsor Citation Award from District 4 of the California Park and Recreation Society.
The society honored Di Canio for her volunteer work at its annual awards ceremony Feb. 27 at the Mountain View Community Center.
Los Altos Recreation and Community Services nominated Di Canio for the award, which recognizes an individual’s outstanding contributions to recreation, parks and human services programs that exponentially improve services and promote “creating community through people, parks and programs.”
Di Canio has served as a volunteer with the city for more than 15 years. She dedicates her time to the Los Altos Senior Program, where she chaperones senior trips, participates in senior gardening, schedules AARP tax appointments, organizes special events and handles bookkeeping for rideshares. She also finds time to decorate the office, aiming to bring cheer to all.
“She is the epitome of an outstanding volunteer and person,” said Bridget Matheson, Los Altos recreation supervisor. “We can never thank her enough for the time and effort she has devoted to the Los Altos community.”
Di Canio has received several other municipal volunteer program awards, including the Alice Semple Award for outstanding service to the city of Los Altos.
