The city of Los Altos recently received the Excellence in Operating Budget award from the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers.
The award recognizes cities that prepare budgets that display the highest standards of innovative, transparent procedures.
To receive the award, Los Altos’ budget had to satisfy state and nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation, satisfying more than 45 criteria.
“This is a significant achievement for the city of Los Altos,” said Sharif Etman, the city’s director of administrative services, who supervises the Finance Department. “It illustrates the tremendous dedication and focus our team has devoted in preparing a budget document that serves our elected officials and the public.”
The California Society of Municipal Finance Officers promotes excellence in financial management through innovation, continuing education and the professional development of its members.
The Government Finance Officers Association has honored Los Altos with 15 Financial Reporting awards, but this, according to city officials, marks the first time the Society of Municipal Finance Officers has recognized the city for Excellence in Operating Budget.
