• Mission: The Foothill College Veterans Resource Center’s mission is to ensure that the nation’s student veterans and military service members are provided quality support services and opportunities for academic success, professional growth and meaningful employment.
Located on the Foothill campus, the center offers veterans opportunities to pursue educational and career success. The resources support not only veterans, but also eligible dependents, active-duty service members, select reserve service members and National Guard members.
• 2019 update: The center currently serves approximately 150 students using their Veterans Affairs benefits.
Described in 2018 as a “one-stop shop for all their academic needs” by veterans specialist Julie Brown, the center also fosters friendships.
“The center also offers an opportunity to connect and build community and camaraderie,” veteran counselor Mimi Rea added.
Student vets have access to academic and benefits counseling, book vouchers, accommodations and loans of smartpens, tablets and laptops, among other resources.
• Why the Town Crier Holiday Fund is needed: Donations fund the center’s book voucher program, currently its most used service, and help veterans pay for additional books they may not be able to afford, as well as school supplies such as Scantron multiple-choice test sheets.
