Sarah Zebb, owner of Therapy Salon in Los Altos, is scheduled to host her ninth annual “Spirit Day” fund- raiser for cancer patients 1-5 p.m. Oct. 13 at the salon, 660 Fremont Ave.
The festivities will include food and beverages, a bake sale, a raffle, face painting, arts and crafts, hair extensions and children’s games.
This is the second year “Spirit Day” proceeds will support Unravel Pediatric Cancer, a foundation formed in memory of 6-year-old Jennifer Lynn Kranz, who lost her battle to an incurable brain tumor.
The Kranz family will be on hand at this year’s event.
“It’s impossible to not be moved by their heart-wrenching loss and their tireless efforts in the years since to spread awareness about pediatric cancer and the gross lack of funding that goes toward pediatric cancer research versus all other forms of cancer,” said supporter Jennifer Bridgman.
Zebb raised $6,000 for Unravel at last year’s event. She hopes to raise more than $10,000 this year.
“As a stylist, I have for years helped children dealing with cancer find the right wigs or shaving hair. It brings me joy to lift these children’s spirits and self-esteem,” Zebb said. “However, I was heartbroken to learn though Unravel Pediatric Cancer that cancer is the leading cause of childhood death, yet it is the least funded. I cannot imagine, as a parent myself, hearing the dreaded words, ‘Sorry, there is no cure.’ My mission is to raise funds and awareness so every child, everywhere, survives cancer.”
