New Morning Forum season underway

The 70th annual Morning Forum of Los Altos lecture series is underway.

Founded in Los Altos in 1950, the Morning Forum boasts 450 local members. The series features 16 speakers who appear 10 a.m. every other Tuesday from September through the beginning of June at Los Altos United Methodist Church, 655 Magdalena Ave.

Speakers and their topics for the fall and winter:

• Tuesday: Dolores Davison, professor and chairwoman of the departments of history and women’s studies at Foothill College, “Celebrating 100 Years of American Suffrage”

• Oct. 15: Thomas Fingar, Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center scholar, “Getting U.S. China Policy Right”

• Nov. 5: Carol Berkin, former Presidential Professor of History at Baruch College, “Myths of the American Revolution”

• Nov. 19: Patrick Hunt, national lecturer for the Archaeological Institute of America’s Stanford Society, “Hannibal’s Secret Weapon”

• Dec. 3: Michael McFaul, former U.S. ambassador to Russia, “An American Ambassador in Putin’s Russia”

• Jan. 14: Victoria Johnson, associate professor of urban policy and planning at Hunter College, City University of New York, “Founding America’s First Botanical Garden”
