Artist D.A. “Dave” Hendrickson recently donated a painting to the Los Altos nonprofit organization WomenSV, which helps affluent victims of domestic violence.
Hendrickson’s painting, “Journey Into Light,” depicts a woman’s odyssey from being a prisoner in her own home to freedom.
It was inspired by WomenSV founder and executive director Ruthven Darlene.
“(The) painting that was in my head … he took that image out of my head and translated it onto his canvas,” she said.
Hendrickson donated his painting to WomenSV to use on its Facebook page, website and marketing materials.
“It’s an incredible act of generosity on his part, for which we are eternally grateful,” Darlene said.
Hendrickson is the husband of Cindy Hendrickson, the Santa Clara County Superior Court judge who replaced Aaron Persky after his recall last year. Cindy Hendrickson chaired the Domestic Violence Death Review Team, of which Darlene is a member.
Darlene said she met Dave Hendrickson in his role as a facilities manager at Oracle Corp. in Santa Clara, where he invited her to conduct training for the human resources and security staff.
“It was my privilege to host Ruth’s presentation,” Hendrickson said. “Our staff learned about the warning signs of domestic violence and what can be done about it. It was very informative and served to educate our employees in defining all the forms of domestic violence.”
Hendrickson added that WomenSV is an “awesome” organization.
“I’m happy to contribute in a small way to Ruth’s organization,” he said. “Art has the power to lift up people’s spirits and can have a healing effect. Hopefully, my art can help someone to feel better.”
