Wilderness camp participants find healing through shared experiences and camaraderie. Wilderness camps are often cited as providing effective therapy for at-risk teens. Sky’s the Limit Fund helps families in crisis by offering scholarships to offset expensive camp fees.

• Mission: Sky’s the Limit Fund transforms the lives of youth in crisis by providing grants, support and hope through wilderness therapy programs and beyond.

According to Sky’s the Limit Fund representatives, the crisis in today’s youth has reached epidemic proportions, with problems that do not discriminate based on ethnicity, religion or socioeconomics. Wilderness therapy programs provide effective and personalized therapeutic care, achieving high-impact and long-lasting improvement.

Founded by two Los Altos residents, Sky’s the Limit Fund partners with wilderness therapy programs to connect youth in crisis to the funds they need for treatment. The organization evaluates applications and awards grants, and the wilderness therapy programs match the grants with an equal reduction in tuition. Since its inception in 2010, Sky’s the Limit Fund has served more than 330 youth with total funding of more than $1.6 million ($3.2 million with matching funds).

• 2017 update: Sky’s the Limit Fund has continued to grow, with a significant increase in the number of applicants. The organization awarded 77 grants to families in need, providing $406,595 in funding. Sky’s the Limit Fund now includes Family Coaching services for every family that receives a grant, and has raised the bar with the goal of serving 90 families for $500,000, which will total $1 million when matched by the partner programs.

The organization hosted two annual fundraisers, the spring NightLights event and the fall Reaching for the Stars Breakfast. Both exceeded expectations, raising a total of more than $350,000. Sky’s the Limit Fund also partnered with Facebook for a screening of the movie “Girl on the Edge” and participated in the Facebook County Fair in August, giving the organization the opportunity to share its work with the community.

• Why the Town Crier Holiday Fund is needed: Sky’s the Limit Fund continues to receive a greater number of grant applications every year. The requests outweigh available funds. The organization operates 100 percent on donations. Without Town Crier Holiday Fund support, some low- and moderate-income families would not be able to afford the high cost of wilderness treatment.
