The Town Crier has named Claudia Coleman, a longtime resident who has held leadership positions at the Los Altos Community and El Camino Hospital foundations, 2016 Los Altan of the Year.
Modeled after Time Magazine’s Person of the Year, the Town Crier’s annual honor recognizes a resident whose volunteer work generates goodwill and forwards Los Altos’ reputation as an outstanding community.
Coleman, who has coordinated Los Altos Community Foundation’s Leadership Education Advancement class since 2009, has expanded the program and its impact in the community. Several alumni have gone on to run for local office and increase their volunteer commitment.
Coleman is past chairwoman of the hospital foundation and continues to serve on the board. She has also served on the local board of the American Red Cross and on the board of The Terraces at Los Altos.
Along with her husband, Bill, the former Hewlett-Packard Co. executive is a founding donor of the University of Colorado’s Coleman Institute for Cognitive Disabilities.
A more thorough review of Coleman’s life and achievements is scheduled to run as the cover story in the Jan. 4 Town Crier. A dinner honoring Coleman is slated 6 p.m. Jan. 17 at Fremont Hills Country Club in Los Altos Hills.
