The local American Association of University Women’s Tech Trek scholarship recipients include, from left, Karenna Olson from Egan Junior High, Idalia Martinez from Crittenden Middle School, Sarah Haslem from Blach Intermediate School, Michele Yuan from Crittenden, Tori Hausch from Egan, Katherine Shok from Blach and Katherine Houston from Blach.

The Los Altos-Mountain View branch of the American Association of University Women is scheduled to launch its membership year 10:30 a.m. Sept. 13 in the Hillview Community Center Social Hall, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.

Members, prospective members, friends and interested women and men are invited to attend, particularly parents of school-age daughters.

Bettina Chen will serve as the event’s keynote speaker. A graduate of Stanford University’s engineering department, Chen co-founded Roominate Toys, focused on creating toys that appeal to girls and boost their skills in math, design and engineering.

Several middle-school girls will discuss their experiences this summer at the Tech Trek Grace Hopper Science Camp at Stanford. Scholarships provided by the local AAUW in partnership with the Rotary and Kiwanis clubs enabled the girls to attend the Tech Trek camp.

Refreshments will be served.

To RSVP and for more information, call Lorraine Coccaro at 567-9354 or visit lamv-ca.aauw.net.
