Community Emergency Response Team trainers from the Santa Clara County Fire Department led graduates of Los Altos PREPARE’s course through 18 hours of training.

Los Altos PREPARE’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) recently put its students through final field exercises after 18 hours of training.

With help from George Hurst of the Santa Clara County Fire Department, CERT volunteers Leroy Wilkinson and Marsha Hovey, and Los Altos PREPARE staff members, Los Altos CERT graduates received a FEMA CERT Course diploma at their graduation ceremony May 31.

Los Altos Police Chief Tuck Younis and Santa Clara County Fire Department Chief Ken Kehmna, honorary guests speakers at the ceremony, thanked class members for their dedication and involvement with community preparedness – which will assist them and the city in the event of an emergency or natural disaster.

Intero Real Estate Services of Los Altos and the city of Los Altos Hills provided use of their facilities for CERT class activities.

The next CERT class is scheduled to begin Sept. 18.
