CAT neighborhood protection program launches Tuesday

The Los Altos Community Foundation’s Los Altos PREPARE program is scheduled to launch the Community Action Team (CAT) for neighborhoods 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Rosita Park, 401 Rosita Ave.

The kickoff is slated in conjunction with National Night Out, an annual community-police awareness-raising event. The CAT gatherings are designed to spread the word about police programs, establish police-community partnerships, boost neighborhood solidarity and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized.

Community Action Teams include neighbors, led by a resident, working to achieve a safe neighborhood. The teams will disseminate information and host activities focused on emergency preparedness, safety, sustainability and community involvement. Los Altos PREPARE will offer team leaders training, support and tools to share with neighbors.
