Letter to the Editor

Enough already with charter school letters

I did not know that public schools spent school money on fliers mailed to the public. But that’s what I got in today’s mail, using first-class postage.

And what are Bullis Charter School officials saying or advertising? They are letting us know how wonderful they are to “agree” to a split campus. They are splitting the elementary school and the junior high/middle school. And they are telling us how magnanimous they are and that other schools don’t have to do this.

So what are Santa Rita, Almond, etc., and Blach and Egan? Are these not split campuses?

I live in Mountain View, and my now-adult sons went to Covington, Egan and Los Altos High. They had a wonderful education from our local districts. So I don’t have a vested interest in this ridiculously long legal fight between the Los Altos School District and Bullis Charter School. But I am sick of it.

The charter school is not a public school but a quasi-private school. Its families have to pay thousands of dollars extra to send their children there.

They seem to have amazingly deep pockets to spend on legal fees. Do other “charter” schools behave like this? I doubt it. Enough already!
