Our Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District is one of the best in the state. It isn’t that way by accident – the district has historically benefited from strong leadership from its board of trustees, particularly in recent years.
Incumbents Debbie Torok and Fiona Walter are both highly deserving of another term on the board. Both are intelligent, committed and responsible.
Walter and Torok both presided over last year’s passage of Measure E, the $295 million bond that will go toward expanding and updating district facilities. It’s only appropriate that the two continue to oversee implementation of a facilities plan that they helped bring about.
Newcomer Catherine Vonnegut also brings commitment and experience to the board through decades of active involvement in the schools communities. She has served as Los Altos Mountain View PTA Council president and Mountain View High PTSA president and was a member of the MVLA Adult School Advisory board.
There are several challenges ahead for this respected district – the ongoing achievement gap, rising enrollment and the outdoor stadium lights issue among them. We’re confident that Torok, Walter and Vonnegut are the best choices for leading MVLA into a bright future.
