The Silicon Valley Realtors Charitable Foundation, the charitable arm of the Silicon Valley Association of Realtors (SILVAR), presented $1,000 scholarships earlier this summer to 18 graduating seniors from public high schools in Silicon Valley.
Recipients included Los Altos High School graduate Jerry Liu, who will attend Princeton University in the fall, and Mountain View High School graduate Viet Nguyen, who will attend Brown University.
The scholarship program, in its 14th year, recognizes students with outstanding achievements in academics, extracurricular/employment activities and community involvement. The selection committee included representatives from the local business community, area high schools, area colleges and SILVAR.
“We are very happy we have been able to assist our youth for the past 14 years as they embark on their college careers,” said SILVAR scholarship chairwoman Nina Yamaguchi. “The seniors selected for the SILVAR scholarship program are very deserving of recognition.”
Scholarship recipients are selected from high schools in the communities served by the more than 4,000 members of SILVAR. Since its inception, the program has provided $252,000 in scholarships to more than 250 graduating high school seniors.
