Free tax prep services offered next week in MV

The Intuit Financial Freedom Foundation is scheduled to offer free tax preparation services to lower-income earners ($36,000 or under last year) and active-duty military noon to 7 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Mountain View Public Library, 585 Franklin St.

All qualifying taxpayers will have the opportunity to prepare and file their federal and state tax returns at no cost, using TurboTax Free File Program software, according to a city of Mountain View press release. Volunteers will be on hand to assist as needed.

The software helps taxpayers identify and claim all of the tax credits and deductions for which they are eligible.

Participants are asked to bring a form of government identification, Social Security card or individual taxpayer’s identification number for each family member, proof of income (including W-2 and 1099 forms), documentation of deductible expenses, health insurance form 1095-A (if health insurance was purchased through the marketplace for any family member), account and routing numbers of checking or savings accounts for direct deposit and a copy of a 2018 tax return or IRS transcript, or TurboTax 2018 login and email information.

While walk-ins are welcome, interested taxpayers are encouraged to make an appointment .
