Pigtails & Crewcuts, a hair salon designed especially for kids, is set to open in Los Altos in early December.
Reyna Patel and Sneha Bhavan – sisters-in-law, close friends and now business partners – aim to bring something new to the Peninsula. Both moms of young boys, they saw a need for a salon tailored to children.
“It was very hard for us to find a children’s salon where stylists had the patience and personality to handle my two boys,” Patel said in a statement. “They hated getting haircuts and would constantly be on the move, which made our trip to the salon such an ordeal for everyone.”
Bhavan experienced a similar situation with her son.
“The sound of the buzzer close to his ears and swift movement of the scissors and combs coming at him from different directions was an experience that scared him.”
Patel and Bhavan explored options that would align with their values, in the process discovering the Pigtails & Crewcuts franchise. They said the “classy decor, child-friendly environment and entertainment for kids as well as the strong franchise support and the ethical corporate practices” attracted them to the brand.
The Los Altos salon plans to offer the same stress-free experience found at other Pigtails & Crewcuts locations. Children are offered a variety of books, movies, toys and video games, and they choose a theme chair for their haircut. Stylists are trained to handle the “fears and tears” of all children, the owners said, including children with sensory issues.
The salon also will feature a retail area with specialized children’s hair products as well as a private party room.
Pigtails & Crewcuts is located at 2310 Homestead Road, Suite C, Los Altos, near Trader Joe’s. Grand-opening festivities will be announced soon.
