Carol Garsten, owner of Nature Gallery at 296 State St. in downtown Los Altos, launched her new jewelry collection, “87Rocks,” Friday, the first day of summer.

Garsten said her latest collection “presents jewelry with a bold geologic aesthetic.”

“Finding a bold and deep (connection) with the awesome beauty of the earth is what my collection is all about,” she noted in a press release.

The collection includes pendants, earrings, rings, necklaces and bracelets featuring stones such as rainbow hematite, carved jade leaves, black tourmaline crystals, meteorite slices, dinosaur eggshell, gem rhodochrosite and opal.

Garsten donated 10% of sales from her collection during the opening weekend to First Friday activities.

For the past five years, Garsten has served as co-chairwoman with Jamie Lucia of First Friday festivities in downtown Los Altos, held 6-8 p.m. the first Friday of each month.

First Fridays offer extended store hours, special promotions, live music and various games and activities to encourage people to visit downtown.

“My interest is in bringing the community together while creating and supporting retail/restaurant,” Garsten said. “You can’t buy this feeling of community online. What we have is really special.”
