A Mountain View-based doctor is facing sexual battery charges after one of his former patients told police he made aggressive advances toward her.

The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety arrested Todd Yao, 50, July 8, according to a department press release. He is an urgent care doctor for Sutter Health’s Mountain View branch, located at 701 E. El Camino Real.

The patient told police officers she received treatment from Yao in November, and he befriended her afterward, the release stated. In the months that followed, she said, Yao made romantic advances toward her, which she rejected. On at least three occasions, he allegedly forced himself on her, pushed her down and kissed her lips.

According to the release, the patient was initially reluctant to report the crime due to Yao’s status as a medical doctor, but she changed her mind after considering others could be harmed.

A spokesperson for Sutter Health did not respond to a Town Crier inquiry about Yao’s employment status with the health-care company.

The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety is seeking the public’s help with identifying others who may have been victimized by Yao. To report an incident, call Detective Mary Cayori at (408) 730-7122.
