LA residents play prominent roles in Sunnyvale's 'Shrek'

The Sunnyvale Community Players junior production of “Shrek the Musical,” which features four Los Altos residents, is set to close Sunday.

The Los Altos residents in the two-cast production include Freya Forstall (as Fiona in the Swamp cast), Nils Forstall (Shrek in the Forest cast), Michael DeLaurier (Farquaad in the Swamp cast) and Julia Rogers (Dragon in the Forest cast).

The two-cast production, which opened Feb. 24, is slated to run through March 12.

“I would hope that all of them feel empowered to take leadership roles in some form, whether that’s in school or with their friends or even politically or in some kind of organization,” she said. “I would hope this strengthens their gifts of communication and they become very good communicators, because part of being in theater is learning how to communicate.”

Smuin's 'Dance Series 01' comes to Mtn. View this week

The ballet company Smuin is scheduled to perform “Dance Series 01” Thursday through Sunday at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St.

“Dance Series 01” includes the regional premiere of Stanton Welch’s “Indigo,” a work by company founder Michael Smuin titled “Stabat Mater” and the world premiere of Garrett Ammon’s “Madness, Rack, and Honey.”
