Pear's 'Pygmalion' closes Sunday in MV

Pear Avenue Theatre’s production of “Pygmalion” is slated to close Sunday in Mountain View. The theater is located at 1220 Pear Ave.

George Bernard Shaw’s “Pygmalion” premiered in April 1914 in London. It is a critique of the rigid British class system of the day as well as a commentary on the inequality of economics and gender.

“Pygmalion” is the romantic tale of an East End flower girl and her West End phonetics tutor. Professor Henry Higgins makes a bet with his friend, Col. Pickering, that he can train a bedraggled Cockney flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, to pass as a duchess at an elegant, upper-crust event. He tutors her in the external trappings of gentility.

Michael Champlin directs “Pygmalion,” which features Ray R. Renati as Professor Higgins and Katie Rose Krueger as Eliza. The ensemble includes Caroline Clark, Helena G. Clarkson, Daniel Hurst, Troy Johnson, Ann Kuchins, Leslie Newport, Jackie O’Keefe and Todd Wright.

Performances are scheduled 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $10-$35.
