The Los Altos Stage Company’s production of “Harold and Maude” is scheduled to preview Thursday, open Friday and run through May 4 at Bus Barn Theater, 97 Hillview Ave.
The love story is based on the 1971 cult film of the same name. Written by Colin Higgins, the dark romantic comedy is about a budding but unusual friendship. Harold is a morbid young man obsessed with death and dying, while octogenarian Maude is a bright and shining soul filled with a zest for life. Maude teaches Harold how to make the most of his time on earth.
Daniel P. Wilson directs the local production, which features Warren Wernick as Harold and Lillian Bogovich as Maude. Kristin Brownstone (as Mrs. Helen Chasen), Gary Landis (Dr. Matthews), Ray D’Ambrosio (Father Finnegan), Clint Williams (Inspector Doppel/Gardener), Ken Leeds (Sgt. Doppel/Boss), Hannah Larson (Sylvie Gazel/Nancy Mersch/Sunshine Dore) and Jennifer Gregoire (Maid Marie) round out the cast.
Performances are slated 8 p.m. Wednesdays (after this week) through Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays (no show April 20). Tickets are $18-$34.
