CSMA offers free performance tonight featuring jazz saxophonist Schoenberg

The Community School of Music and Arts in Mountain View is slated to present “Echoes of Harlem,” a free performance featuring jazz saxophonist Loren Schoenberg, 7 p.m. today at CSMA’s Tateuchi Hall, 230 San Antonio Circle.

Schoenberg is artistic director of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem. A Bay Area jazz band will accompany him.

In 2010 – after a 30-year search – the National Jazz Museum in Harlem acquired The Savory Collection, comprising more than 1,000 recordings recently rediscovered. The discovery includes music by Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman, Coleman Hawkins and Fats Waller not heard since its initial broadcast.

The National Jazz Museum in Harlem has initiated, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a series of concerts featuring young musicians riffing off of the original recordings and taking them into the present.

The event is part of CSMA’s Stanford Live Informance series. In the collaboration between CSMA and Stanford Live, visiting artists offer performances and engage in conversation in an intimate setting.

Limited, open seating is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
