Plaza mural

Muralist Oscar Lopez, pictured, and Foothill College art instructor Jordan Fong are collaborating on a mural with positive community themes.

Work is underway on a mural on the wall of the Citibank building at the rear of Veterans Community Plaza. The plaza is located at the intersection of State and Main streets in downtown Los Altos.

Members of the Rotary Club of Los Altos’ Veterans Committee funded the mural.

Los Altos resident and Foothill College art instructor Jordan Fong and muralist Oscar Lopez are collaborating on an image of Los Altos community togetherness and growth from the past and present to the future.

The mural is the third step taken to improve the plaza, according to chief organizer Ron Labetich.

The first step was honoring veterans by changing the name of the plaza from Community Plaza to Veterans Community Plaza in 2018.

Step two involved installing additional seating and shade.

The targeted completion date for the mural is Aug. 1.

“This mural is an excellent opportunity for our Rotary Club to shine in our community,” Labetich said. “I’ve visited the plaza every day for the past week and found numerous people observing and commenting on the mural.”
