Roses

“Old Fashioned Roses” is one of Jan Meyer’s new works on display at Gallery 9 in downtown Los Altos.

Los Altos artist Jan Meyer brings an exhibition of new works to Gallery 9 in downtown Los Altos through Sept. 26.

Her latest collection of paintings was inspired by a visit to a quilt show in Vermont.

“I loved their size and pattern,” said Meyer, known for her many murals painted in and around Los Altos. “I painted some canvases on a larger than normal scale. ... All of these elements, vivid color, line and pattern, give me an opportunity to bring a sense of joy to the observer.”

Gallery 9 is located at 143 Main St. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.

Viewpoint features work of watercolorist

Artist Veronica Rowney Gross offers “The Sierra to the Sea,” an exhibition of watercolor paintings,

at Viewpoints Gallery in downtown Los Altos through Sept. 25.

Her paintings exude natural light and a plein-air approach.

“If weather and time do not permit me to finish a painting at the scene, I make a small watercolor sketch and drawing so that I retain that first impression when translated to a sheet of paper in the studio,” the artist said. “I don’t feel that I ‘own’ the image if I rely just on a photograph.”

Viewpoints Gallery is located at 315 State St. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
