The Rotary Club of Los Altos has canceled this year’s Fine Art in the Park event due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the organization decided on Monday (July 6).
“Sadly, the decision was not ours to make,” said Harry Price, president-elect of the club. “We are prevented from holding such an outdoor event due to the requirements of the state and the county health departments. It is in the best interests of our patrons, our dedicated volunteers and our artists.”
The event, which takes place in Lincoln Park and brings together 160 artists to showcase and exhibit their jewelry, sculptures, ceramics and gifts, was originally postponed from May 16 and 17 to Aug. 29 and 30.
"Since one of Rotary’s goals is fighting disease, canceling this year’s event, in the interest of public health, is appropriate," the Rotary Club said in a press release.
Instead, the organization said it will be holding a virtual event called "Fine Art Online," with the proceeds going toward local and international charities and sustainable projects.
Last week, the Los Altos Village Association canceled the Los Altos Arts & Wine Festival, another major annual event.
