The Foothill College men’s soccer program has tasted success over the years, with five state titles to its credit, but the last time the Owls made the California Community College Athletic Association state semifinals was 2013.
So it’s no wonder Foothill athletic director Mike Teijeiro is proud of the Owls for making it to the state final four this year; they fell 3-1 to top-ranked Mt. San Antonio College in the Dec. 7 semifinals at nearby De Anza College. Teijeiro described the season as a “success,” as Foothill went 16-2-5 under new head coach Mike Sharabi. The Owls ranked seventh in the nation, according to a United Soccer Coaches Association poll released Dec. 10.
Foothill beat Cañada 3-1 and Santa Rosa 2-1 to reach the semis. Mt. SAC took the lead in the second minute and got another goal before Adrien Tompert scored for the Owls in the 74th minute.
Foothill’s roster included Mountain View High graduate Osmin Quijano, the backup goalie.
