Mr. Kowalewski

Memorial services are scheduled this week in memory of Paul Kowalewski, general manager and vice president of All Horizons Travel Los Altos, who collapsed in the downtown Los Altos office Feb. 4. He was 51.

A travel agent and manager with All Horizons for 20 years, Mr. Kowalewski will be remembered for his sense of humor, cheerful disposition and steadfast reliability.

“Everyone at All Horizons Travel mourns for Paul,” said Shannon Murphy, who worked with Mr. Kowalewski for 16 years. “We just miss his quirky, sunny attitude. A huge chunk of the pie is missing here.”

Agency co-owner Maureen Jones enjoyed his always-humorous mood and said he was like a brother to her, and a son to her husband, Roy Jones.

Murphy said Mr. Kowalewski knew everything about airplanes, airports and airshows. “He was also a lover of old cars and restored vehicles.”

A makeshift memorial at his desk pays tribute to the detail-oriented, writing-perfectionist and reliably punctual person he was.

“He would open and close – be here at 8:30 and leave at 5:30,” Murphy said. “He pretty much held down the fort when the agents were out on training missions.”

Mr. Kowalewski collapsed at his office desk Feb. 4. Colleagues called 911 and performed CPR until a medical crew arrived, but paramedics were unable to revive him. Cause of death was not confirmed.

Mr. Kowalewski earned a degree in architecture from the University of Michigan.

“(People) really relied on him for his experience,” Murphy said.

Services will be private.
