Sandy Withers of Los Altos Hills co-chairs this year's Gamble Garden Tour, set for this Friday and Saturday. Featuring five private Palo Alto gardens ranging from historic to meditative to grand Mediterranean, the tour also includes many events at Gamble Garden Center itself.
In addition to a box lunch, available by reservation, there will also be a spring boutique in the main house featuring beautiful garden goods, gift items and Chinese porcelains. Other events include a sale of plants featured in the tour gardens and gardening displays and lectures.
Tour executive committee members from Los Altos and Los Altos Hills include Beth Beach, Mary Linda Cook, Dorothy Humphrey, Leslie Peters, Ann Smith, Chris Stein and Carolyn Barnes.
Proceeds from the tour represent Gamble Garden's major fund-raising effort for the year. Tickets are $23 in advance and $25 on the days of the tour, which is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Complimentary iced tea and cookies will be served to tour-goers on both Friday and Saturday at the Gamble Garden Tea House. A gourmet box lunch at the Carriage House may be reserved in advance for $15. For reservations and information, call the Gamble Garden Center office at 329-1356.
Gamble Garden Center is located at 1431 Waverley Ave., and is open to the public every day of the year, free of charge. It is a restored early twentieth century Palo Alto garden featuring a cutting garden, a rose garden, fruit trees, and many other interesting garden features. The Center offers education and participation to all within the tranquil setting of an urban garden.
