The Los Altos Recreation Department presents its annual gingerbread showhouse exhibit Monday through Friday, Dec. 6-10, in Room 2 at the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave.
Individuals and groups are invited to participate by creating a house with edible ingredients and displaying it in the exhibit. Pick up directions and entry forms at the Los Altos Recreation Department office at Hillview.
Participants and their families are cordially invited to attend a reception from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Dec. 7, in Room 2. Exhibit hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. all week. For more information, call 941-0950, ext. 305.
Palo Alto Garden Club holiday sale
Fresh green arrangements, holiday wreaths, homemade jams and cookies and potted bulbs will be available to holiday shoppers at the Palo Alto Garden Club's "Holiday Affaire," from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Dec. 4, at the Lucie Stern Community Center, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto.
Palo Alto-Stanford heritage house tour
The 12th annual Holiday House Tour sponsored by Palo Alto-Stanford Heritage will take place from 1-5 p.m. Dec. 12. Five turn-of-the-century homes in the "Palo Alto Downtown North" neighborhood, with some of the town's oldest homes, will be featured.
Tour homes date from 1895 to 1908 and include one grande dame which is now a bed-and breakfast inn.
Tickets purchased by Dec. 1 will be sold for $15 and may be obtained by sending a check to PAST at P.O. Box 308, Palo Alto 94302. Tickets sold on the day of the tour for $20 may be picked up at 575 Hawthorne Ave. during tour hours. 1999 Santa Clara historic home tour
Five historic Santa Clara homes will be featured on Friday evening, from 6-10 p.m., Dec. 10, and from noon to 5 p.m., Dec. 11. The homes display shingle, classic craftsman, colonial revival and Italianate architecture and all date from the 19th century. Four of the homes are privately owned and the fifth is the Harris-Lass House Museum, located at 1889 Market St., Santa Clara, which will be decorated for the season by local community groups.
Ticket prices are $12 for seniors (60 and up), $15 general admission for advance purchases and $20 at the door (if available). Tickets may be purchased at Wilson Jewel Bakery, 1285 Homestead Road, Santa Clara, through Dec. 10. For more information, call the home tour hotline at (408) 984-6127.
Christmas at Filoli
From Saturday through Dec. 4, "Christmas at Filoli" will include evening galas, festive dinners, light suppers for evening shoppers, and the legendary "At Home" shopping boutique, with music and beautiful decorations. Filoli-created crafts, gifts, wreaths and decorations will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Sunday through Dec. 4. Admission to "At Home" is $15.
