El Camino schedules free skin-cancer screenings

The Cancer Center at El Camino Hospital has scheduled free skin-cancer screenings 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 30 at the Melchor Pavilion on the hospital campus, 2490 Hospital Drive, Mountain View.

One in five Americans and one in three Caucasians will develop skin cancer in their lifetimes. El Camino dermatologists will refer participants for follow-ups or biopsies if suspicious growths are detected.

Arthritis discussion focuses on hips, knees

The city of Los Altos Recreation Department and the Women’s Hospital at El Camino Hospital have scheduled Dr. John Parker, an orthopedic surgeon, to discuss “Arthritis: Mobility and Impact on Hips and Knees” noon to 1 p.m. May 19 in Room 12 of the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.

The El Camino Hospital Health Library and Resource Center will be onsite with books and materials on arthritis and exercise for attendees to check out and take home.

Participants will receive a free HealthPerks lifetime membership from the Women’s Hospital. Normally $25, the program offers information on lectures and events related to women’s health, free health screenings and consultations, health tips, a monthly newsletter, discounts on health-related purchases in the community, membership to the Health Library and Resource Center and more.

Reservations are preferred, but drop-ins are welcomed.

Healthy Steps program offers fitness resources

The city of Los Altos Recreation Department and the Community Services Agency have scheduled “Healthy Steps in Silicon Valley” 12:30 p.m. June 9 in Room 12 of the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.

Participants can learn about resources for health and fitness after age 50 and receive a free guidebook filled with practical advice on maintaining health.

The presentation is part of Healthy Steps in Silicon Valley, a program of the Council on Aging Silicon Valley in partnership with The Health Trust.
