Florence Sidenblad, a resident of The Terraces at Los Altos, celebrated her 100th birthday last month with five generations of her family.
Sidenblad was born in Morris, Minn., Oct. 5, 1913. Orphaned at a young age, she moved in with her aunt in Minneapolis. In 1935, she married Carl Sidenblad and eventually moved to a Civilian Conservation Corps camp with her two daughters. After her husband was transferred in 1941, the family relocated to Hawaii. Sidenblad remembers getting ready for church when the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor hit Honolulu.
After the war, Sidenblad lived in many different places, including Riverside; the Philippines; Seoul, Korea; and a return to Morris. She moved to Los Altos in 2005 and into what was then Pilgrim Haven in 2008.
To mark her centennial, Sidenblad received congratulations from the White House and her favorite team, the San Francisco Giants. The Giants also sent her a replica ring from the 2012 World Series.
