Los Altos native Sherwin Sheik, founder and CEO of CareLinx, is on a mission to empower those in need of in-home care to connect directly with individual care providers, and to give them all the tools necessary to efficiently and cost effectively manage their caregiving services online.
Sheik’s company aims to provide much of the security and oversight of a traditional agency, at the price of hiring a caregiver directly.
“My motivations are deeply personal,” Sheik said. “I developed CareLinx to specifically solve many of the problems my family encountered while trying to find and manage home care for my sister with multiple sclerosis and uncle with ALS.”
CareLinx’s approximately 3,500 paid care providers have registered with the site, which creates free profiles that include a photograph and detail education, experience, skills, hourly rates and personal characteristics. Care seekers complete a compatibility questionnaire and are then matched with caregivers that meet their needs and budget, Sheik said.
Once a potential match is identified, CareLinx provides tools such as background checks, video chats, online scheduling, GPS shift tracking, automated invoicing and payment processing via credit or debit card.
According to Sheik, the service is free for both care providers and care seekers to join, post jobs and search the database for compatible care providers and caregiving positions.
Other benefits, he said, include real-time communication tools, enabling family members, care providers and other members of the health-care team to be actively involved while at work or while managing care from afar.
CareLinx charges a 5 percent payment processing fee for users of the company’s payment processing service.
“We are committed to providing all the tools people need to easily manage home care online,” Sheik said. “It’s our goal to make home care more affordable and accessible for everyone.”
