Getting the most out of your doctor's visit

A seminar on getting the most out of your doctor's visit is being co-sponsored by the Camino Medical Group.

It takes place 1-3 p.m., Feb. 26, in the back of the El Camino Hospital. Admission is $3, free for those over 55.

Managing pain focus of seminar

An El Camino Hospital seminar deals with taking charge of your pain and learning what questions you should ask yourself about it.

The seminar is from 10-11:30 a.m., March 31, in Park Pavilion, Room O, El Camino Hospital. Admission is $3 and is free for those over 55.

What's happening with medicine and HMOs

An overview will be presented of fee-for-service Medicare coverage and benefits with a comparison of HMOs administering these benefits under contract with Medicare.

The presentation is from 10-11 a.m., March 10, in El Camino Hospital, in the back of the cafeteria. Admission is $3 and free for those over 55.

Free tax counseling and tax service

A free tax counseling and service will be provided for adults 60 and over at Avenidas, 450 Bryant St., Palo Alto. AARP, the IRS and the California Franchise Tax Board have joined Avenidas in providing assistance to tax filers. Service will be available 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Fridays from Feb. 5 to April 9.

Catholic Charities foster grandparent program

Catholic Charities is looking for persons age 60 and older who are willing to give love and attention to children with special needs in the community. Participants must be on a limited retirement income to qualify, be in good physical health, and be able to work four hours a day, five days a week.

Foster grandparents receive a small non-taxable stipend and other benefits.

Alzheimer's programs 'Beginning to Cope'

The Alzheimer's Association - Greater Bay Area is conducting a series of "Beginning to Cope" programs for National Older American's Month. They will be held in the following places:

Feb. 22: 1-3 p.m., Cupertino Senior Center, 21251 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino.

March 23: 10 a.m. to noon, San Bruno Senior Center 1555 Crystal Springs Road, San Bruno.

April 13: 7-9 p.m., Palo Alto Medical Foundation, 920 Bryant St. (Auditorium), Palo Alto.

April 29: 6:30-8:30 p.m., Milpitas Senior Center, 160 N. Main St., Milpitas.
